Yankees’ Jordan Montgomery out 6-to-8 weeks

HOUSTON The medical update Wednesday on Yankees left-hander Jordan Montgomery wasn’t good.

He has a flexor strain and will be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks.

Rookie right-hander Domingo German, who worked four shutout innings of relief on Tuesday, will fill Montgomery’s spot in the rotation.

He’s pitching Sunday for us and then he’ll probably likely stay in the rotation, Boone said of German. We go through a period once we get through this stretch where we have three off days in 10 days, so that could factor into some things. But we feel good about him moving into the rotation.

The Yankees replaced Montgomery on their 25-man roster by purchasing the contract of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre right-hander David Hale, who just rejoined the organization on Tuesday after being a waiver claim by the Minnesota Twins last week. They opened a 40-man roster spot for Hale by transferring outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury from the 10-day DL to the 60-day DL.

Freeman then signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL where he spent three seasons (2009-11).

The Colts under then-general manager Ryan Grigson gave Freeman his shot at the NFL after signing the linebacker to a contract in January 2012.

Freeman became the first player from Mary Haydin-Baylor to play in an NFL game and burst on the scene during his first NFL regular season, totaling 145 tackles (90 solo), two sacks, an interception, two passes defensed and a forced fumble.

After fou seasons with the Colts (2012-15), Freeman joined Chicago on a three-year, $12 million deal.
